Redbank Plains Gets Recycling with Containers for Change

A new Containers for Change depot opened in late December at 140-142 Eagle Street, Redbank Plains, giving residents greater accessibility to the recycling scheme that provides a 10 cent refund for all eligible containers.

n

Jason Beveridge, managing director of Beveridge Container Recycling, who operates the new depot, is set to make it easier for people to recycle their eligible beverage containers.

nn

“Customers in the local area will not need to travel as far,” he said.

nn

The new site is the latest addition to the region, following on from the successful Containers for Change site at Yamanto, which opened in April 2019.

nn

Mr Beveridge said the addition of the Redbank Plains site bolstered the already thriving recycling spirit in the region, with Yamanto setting the benchmark for success.

nn

“We are always looking for ways to improve. We believe our Yamanto facility is one of the best in the state, and Redbank Plains replicates, as much as possible, our operation there.

nn

“We expect our Redbank Plains site to eventually reach over 400,000 containers per week,” he said.

nn

Mr Beveridge, who joined the scheme as a Containers for Change operator in 2018, said the sites were important to benefit local communities, creating jobs as well as a positive environmental impact.

nn

“Recycling, in general, is good for many reasons as it reduces energy use and therefore greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.

nn

“It also reduces the chance of plastics entering the ocean and waterways, and the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

n

“The Containers for Change scheme has the added benefits of reducing beverage containers being discarded on the roadside and providing a source of funding for anyone who chooses to recycle eligible containers.”

nn

More than five billion containers have been returned and $500 million in refunds have been claimed since the scheme began in Queensland just over three years ago.

nn

Beveridge Container Recycling Redbank Plains will be open Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, and weekends from 9am–2pm.
