Search for Australia’s funniest boomer

Were you the life of the party at Christmas lunch? Do you always have a few jokes up your sleeve…start a sentence with “have you heard the one about…” and have friends and family crying with laughter? Or do you know a sassy senior who was born for stand-up?

Then it’s time to get your act together as the search is on for Australia’s funniest boomer and as long as you are aged over 58 you can enter – no professional experience required. This is a chance to put a talented Ipswich senior in the spotlight but the window closes at midnight on 31 January.

Whether you were the class clown growing up or your funny bone has sharpened with age and you crave a spot centre stage, now is the time to show off your comedic wit and win big at the same time. The hosts of seniors online community Starts at 60 are behind the competition and calling for entries as a celebration of the timeless humour and wit of today’s over – 60s and aims to show everyone just how funny this generation can be.

Three finalists will be hosted in Brisbane for a showdown at the inaugural Starts at 60 Comedy Festival in September, where they will battle it out for the title of Australia’s Funniest Boomer.

Judges are looking for the witty and wise, and truly hilarious, and originality is key. No sparkling story or daggy dad joke will be left untouched, so dust off your favourite jokes, side-splitting stories and punchy one-liners and show Australia what Ipswich seniors have to offer.

Entrants are required to submit a two-minute video that shows their funny side and shortlisted entries will be published on the Starts at 60 website, where the public from across the country will be able to vote for a People’s Choice finalist. A panel of judges will select two more finalists, then all three will take part in the Starts at 60 Comedy Festival in Brisbane which will also star special guest comedians. Judges and the audience will pick the winner on the night who will take home the grand prize of a P&O cruise which sets sail next year. Find out how to enter at
