Council’s Active and Healthy program offers free or low-cost physical activity, health and wellbeing programs near you. Activities are suitable for everyone, regardless of your age, gender, mobility or work schedule

Adaptive Aquatics

Adaptive Aquatics is a new swim program designed for people of all ages and abilities. It is run in a safe, engaging, fun and inclusive environment.

The program features individualised sessions that are designed specifically to enable people of all levels of ability access to aquatic environments.

Weekly classes are held in our heated indoor pools.

nn

The cost is $4 per class.

nn

Bookings for Adaptive Aquatics programs are essential.

Live Well Logan classes

One of the best ways to start exercising is in a low-cost, group class. That’s exactly what Live Well Logan classes provide to the people of Logan.

nn

The staff at Logan Leisure Centre gyms are excited to continue to deliver Live Well Logan classes as part of our normal group fitness timetable. In fact, our gyms are the number one provider of Live Well Logan classes, offering over a dozen classes every week for just $4 (or free to gym members).

We’re always keen to maximise the number of Logan residents that can access fitness classes for a low rate. Our classes include a range of exercise options from low-impact gentle exercise to bootcamp and boxing.

There are many benefits to joining our Live Well Logan classes. Enjoy exercise with people with similar experiences, maintain or improve your fitness and make daily life activities a bit easier — because quality of life is important to everyone.

It is safe and fun, instructors understand your specific needs and know how to address them and classes can help lower blood pressure, weight, and risks of falling and improve cholesterol control, well-being, sleep, balance and flexibility.

Movemore

nn

Movemore is a gentle, low-to-moderate physical activity program. It has been designed to support people with stable, long-term health conditions or those who haven’t exercised in a while.

Movemore group exercise sessions are run by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. The exercises help prevent and manage chronic diseases and injuries.

nn

Many conditions are supported by the program. These include, but are not limited to, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, and obesity.

The program is also ideal for falls prevention and anyone wishing to exercise in a safe and social environment

nn

Each session involves aerobic and strength training, coordination and flexibility exercises and balance training.

What to bring:

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-in shoes/joggers. Also, bring a water bottle and any relevant medication.

The session duration is 60 minutes.

LungPower

nn

LungPower aims to assist people who are living with chronic lung conditions or heart failure to maintain their health and fitness.

nn

The program is run by inSports’ exercise physiologists and comprises both exercise and education. It’s a flexible program that can be tailored to meet individual needs – from mild to moderate or severe lung disease. The exercise component focuses on increasing physical function. This can include walking, upper and lower body strength exercises, balance, and stretching. The education component focuses on breathing techniques and conserving energy.

LungPower is funded by Live Well Logan and managed by Logan City Council’s Logan Leisure Centre’s clinical exercise physiology and exercise scientist team.

Golden Game Time

nn

If you’re over 65 and enjoy playing sport then this program will enable you to “get back in the game”. Golden Game Time is designed by our allied health team to enable older people to stay active. It includes modified games and activities such as beach ball volleyball, walking netball, badminton, and tennis.

Our allied health professionals tailor activities to your level which means you don’t have to worry about the activities being too hard or too easy!

The program includes a pick-up and drop-off service by TransitCare to and from the Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.

nn

It’s a fun and easy way to get out and get active. And best of all, the first 10 sessions are FREE.

Senior pets for senior people

nn

The senior pets for senior people program re-homes mature-aged animals with seniors, free of charge.

nn

Residents with a seniors’ card can register their interest in the program. Adoption is free and we give free lifetime registration.
